Boston School Committee is reorganized.

Through a change in the city charter, the committee is to consist of 74 members – the mayor, the president of the Common Council, and 6 representatives from each of the 12 wards, with one-third of them elected annually for three-year terms. By 1875, due to the recent annexations of Roxbury, Charlestown, Dorchester, West Roxbury and Brighton, the School Committee consists of 116 members. (196 at one point-Archives)
